Whistling woods is nestled in Khandala in the more privy neighbourhoods - is a cluster of bungalows designed as weekend homes - named aptly so with the dense foliage that's been left untouched in course of the construction - one hears the breeze gently whistle thro its branches.
The bungalows are designed with an intent of retaining the privacy of neighbours and yet absorbing much of the natural setting this locale has to offer. Each unit is complete with four bedrooms , two lounges and a pool attached to every unit that completes the concept of a weekend home.
taking the concept of "less is more " , the bungalows are planned with maximum windows and sundecks attached to every room overlooking the lawns and pool below - and well landscaped to add the tropical touch. the large window openings maximise the interior spaces with much light and more so connecting the warm jaisalmer clad floors with the soft lawns on the exterior. the use of local Indian stones on the interior specifications as well as the outdoors is done consciously to retain a warm rustic flavour and adding a homely touch - a break away from the commercial tiled look. Adding to the bespoke touch - each of the six villas are accented differently on the interiors - as well as the landscape is given a personalized touch with every poolside adorned with a different statue of Shiva, Ganesha or Buddha etc.
the upper floors with the main bedrooms and a lounge are designed with sloped roofs to give the interior spaces double heighted lofty ceilings and the sloped roofs accent the exterior elevation architecturally as well. the stair leading up to the floor above and terrace is an open well that gives the house a majestic volume extending into the two floors above and charms each new visitor with a grace that's 3 floors high.
The units are clustered as a pair - therefore although giving it a look of a larger villa - although internally is split into two bungalow units. the exterior facade is further refined with the use of malad stone dressed by hand that gives it a more natural look and feel as opposed to the standard mass produced cladding materials.
All in all the villas are a first step toward a bespoke villa development and the design culminates into achieving the effect by use of materials in highlights to give it a rustic charm in a modern context.
